St. John's Wort
A Calming Nervine.
St. John's wort (hypericum perforatum) has become a popular herb for depression and anxiety. A classic remedy for nerve damage and depression, St. John's wort has been used for centuries and is held in high esteem by herbalists. It is primarily valued as a treatment for damage to the nerve endings such as in burns, neuralgia, wounds, and trauma to the skin. It is also highly effective for relieving the symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, seasonal affective disorder, chronic fatigue, and personality disorders. It lifts the spirits in a profound scientific way.

St. John's Wort has also been known to be used in drug and alcohol addictions detox. Taking St. John's Wort while recovering from these habits allows the dopamine system to be calmed and sedated as a person goes through withdrawal, and beyond. St. John's Wort has been used for long term recovery as it soothes and calms the nervous system as it goes through cravings and withdrawals. (in particular the dopamine system).

Available in 1 oz package. Certified Organic. Hypericum perforatum.

THE 7 BENEFITS OF TAKING AS A TEA AND NOT AS A PILL

1. It is MUCH CHEAPER!!!
1 ounce of bulk St. John's Wort will make 12 to 20 cups of tea. 1 capsule of St. John's Wort contains an indiscriminate amount of the herb, you would have to take 26 capsules to equal 1 tablespoon of the herb. The tea form is cheaper, more effective, and heals more efficiently.

2. Its Better Absorbed by the Body.
Raw St. John's Wort, steeped as a tea, is better absorbed by the body. In a warmed form, it is more easily accepted by the digestive system and more readily distributed as medicine throughout the body.

3. Essential Oils are Preserved.
St. John's Wort contains potent calming properties, and when tea is prepared correctly, the eseential oils are released into the tea. In pill form, the herb is not warmed and the body does not have enough time to break it down before it passes through the digestive system and the stomach acid destroys the oils.

4. Hydration.
Our bodies are 98% water, and most people do not drink enough each day to support a healthy body. Taking St. John's Wort in liquid form helps you reach your body's daily water requirements, and also assists in cleansing the kidneys and bladder.

5. Heat Therapy.
Heat, in and of itself, is a wonderful source of healing and relaxation. Use the tea as a calming heat therapy.

6. Its the Way Nature Intended.
Nature has provided us with this healing plant. It should be taken into our bodies in the most natural form possible. Nature didn't intend for us to put it in a pill form and swallow it quickly and hastily, forcing our digestive system to break down the capsule, not giving enough time to break down this complex herb before it passes to the waste system.

7. Taking the Time We Need.
Depression is often a natural result of having a busy life and not taking the time necessary to heal. Taking the time to prepare the tea is making a loving gesture towards yourself. It sends the message to your body that it is being cared for. This is a helpful psychological benefit.

HOW TO USE
St. John's Wort Loose Herb
Using our celestial tea strainer, or your favorite tea ball, place a generous pinch of St. John's Wort herb into the strainer or ball. (About 1/2 T). Place the strainer into your teacup or mug.

Fill the cup with boiling water.

Important! Cover the cup with a saucer or lid for ten minutes. (This preserves the essential oils and does not let them steam into the air).

After 10 minutes, drink. Repeat as necessary, generally 3 times a day. Seek the advice of an herbalisit for your specific dosage.

Excerpt from Maude Grieve's A Modern Herbal
"Aromatic, astringent, resolvent, expectorant and nervine. Used in all pulmonary complaints, bladder troubles, in suppression of urine, dysentery, worms, diarrhoea, hysteria and nervous depression, haemoptysis and other haemorrhages and jaundice. For children troubled with incontinence of urine at night an infusion or tea given before retiring will be found effectual; it is also useful in pulmonary consumption, chronic catarrh of the lungs, bowels or urinary passages. Externally for fomentations to dispel hard tumours, caked breasts, ecchymosis, etc....

... There are many ancient superstitions regarding this herb. Its name Hyperieum is derived from the Greek and means 'over an apparition,' a reference to the belief that the herb was so obnoxious to evil spirits that a whiff of it would cause them to fly."
