Plantain is a medicine of great importance for the
mouth, gums, and teeth. It is an excellent general tonic for the gums,
pulling out infection and toning the tissues. There are many people who
are afflicted with infection about the roots of the teeth, which may or
may not respond to dental surgery. Plantain has a remarkable ability to
draw out the infected material...Plantain leaves are placed on bee stings,
insect bites, and snakebites to draw out the venom.

Plantain is considered on of the Green Bitters, a healthy
green excellent in cleansing the liver & improves yin deficiencies.
Other necessary bitters are dandelion root & dandelion leaf. A favorite
herbalists' expression is, "Better eat your bitters or they will
find some other way into your life!"
"Plantain for Pain"
This herb was used by early dentists for toothpulling. Once the tooth
was pulled, they would pack the hole with plantain for the pain, and also
for plantain's ability to draw out infection from the teeth & gums.

Plantain is a common weed across North America
and is a highly nutritional food. It is one of the best poultice
herbs and is often referred to as the "green bandage".
Its' among my favorite herbs for treating blood poisoning, used
externally on the infected area and internally as a tea. Plantain
seeds are rich in mucilage and are often used in laxative blends
for their soothing bulk action; in fact, psyllium seeds used in
Metamucil are produced from a Plantain species. This herb is also
very effective for treating liver sluggishness and inflammation
of the digestive tract.
